Victim Support Road Bereavement and Serious Injury Project

Bereavements through road traffic collisions (RTC) are sudden and unexpected. They leave victims’ families needing high levels of support for a prolonged period of time.

The Victim Support Road Bereavement and Serious Injury Project provides a personalised support service to bereaved families following the death of a loved one as a result of an RTC. Since October 2019, the project has also helped survivors of RTCs who have suffered life changing injuries.

Each family is assigned a dedicated caseworker. They act as a single point of contact, from the initial referral, until they no longer need support. The caseworker provides support including:

  • Assisting with the funeral
  • Childcare and transportation
  • Financial assistance such as benefits and compensation claims
  • Coordinating existing support services in the region.

Referrals are made to Victim Support via the police. However, if you wish to know more about this service, please call 0300 303 1977.

The following quotes are from people who have been helped by West Midlands Victim Support.

“You have got me through a lot of anxiety. You were always there when I needed that support, on the phone and in person. I’m very grateful for the ongoing support and help I’ve received, as this helped me a great deal to get through very difficult times.”

“Thank you so much, you are the first person to listen to me and have supported me to get the ball rolling to move on from abuse.”

“Thank you for listening to me. I can’t tell you how much you have actually helped me just by listening. I was starting to believe that I wasn’t worth anything. I’ll never be able to thank you enough.”

“You will never realise how much your support has helped me, you have been my lifeline I don’t know what I would have done without you.”

We work with a number of partner organisations in the West Midlands to make sure you get the support you need. Find out more about some of the services and organisations we work with.
