How we can help
As a victim of crime or antisocial behaviour (ASB), you can call your local Victim Support team in South Wales, and we’ll make sure you get the information and support you need. This might be arranging a meeting for you to talk to us and receive emotional support in confidence, helping you to fill out a compensation form or get advice on how to make your home more secure, or referring you to other specialist organisations that can also help.
Specialist services in your area
As well as offering emotional and practical support to people affected by crime, we run a number of specialist services in South Wales, including:
Victim Support Cymru has been commissioned by the Welsh Government to support victims of hate crime and incidents in Wales. We are the official support mechanism and are working to increase reporting of hate crime and to raise awareness of what a hate crime is.
South Wales Victim Focus is a local service run by the national and independent charity, Victim Support. We provide help and support to anyone in South Wales affected by crime. Call 0300 303 0161 (Mon – Fri 8am - 8pm).
Someone we’ve helped
Last year we offered immediate support to over 20,000 people affected by crime in South Wales, and gave in-depth support to more than 2,600 people.
One victim we’ve supported is Olwyn, an older woman who was the victim of a violent robbery in her own home. Our volunteer not only offered emotional support for Olwyn, she also provided practical support, liaising with third sector and statutory agencies to ensure Olwyn’s needs were met.
It is now a year since my ordeal and I would like to thank Victim Support for all their support and comfort during this time. I was so brave when it first happened and thought I could deal with the consequences myself, but I was so wrong. Victim Support was there for me and I shall always be grateful.
My hand still hurts and I keep dropping things, but I am alive. Every morning I look up at the heavens, clasp my hands and say “thank you God for another day”.
I thank Victim Support for everything they have done and continue to do for me.
