Road traffic collision
Anyone can be affected by a road death caused by a road traffic collision (RTC) and it can be a very frightening and traumatic experience.
Bereavements through road traffic collisions are sudden and unexpected. They leave victim’s families needing high levels of support for prolonged periods of time.
Victim Support Road Service provides a personalised support service to bereaved families following the death of a loved one as a result of an RTC.
How we can help
We’re an independent charity offering free and confidential support to people affected by crime and traumatic incidents.
We can support those referred to us via police family liaison officers, and we accept self referrals directly. Each family is assigned a dedicated supporter. They act as the single point of contact, from the initial referral, until they no longer need support.
The supporter provides help including:
- being able to speak in confidence, ask questions and get advice
- offering support to everyone directly affected – help for parents and carers to support children coping with the impact
- putting you in touch with other specialist help services or support
- advice in applying for compensation or financial assistance if you’re eligible (you will need to report the crime to the police in order to apply).
- practical information to help you make sense of what’s happened
- information about the criminal justice system and courts’ procedures.
If you have been affected by road death, we offer support from experienced and specially trained staff.
