How we can help
We are a team of caring and compassionate people who are here to support victims of crime.
We are based in Carmarthen but cover the whole of Mid and West Wales.
We can support you without the involvement of the criminal justice system. We won’t contact them about you unless we feel someone is at risk.
The crime doesn’t have to have happened recently. If you were a victim of crime historically, we’ll still be here for you. Sometimes things happen to you and you don’t realise that support may help until later on.
What do we do?
The Dyfed-Powys Victim Service is here to support anyone affected by crime, not only victims, but their friends, family and any other people involved.
Because we are independent, you can talk to us whether or not you reported the crime to the police.
The support we can offer
Talking to one of our supporters can help you deal with your feelings after a crime. However, there are often practical problems which can remind you of what you’ve been through. These can make it harder to get your life back under control.
That’s why we also offer help with sorting out the practical elements of being a victim.
Our staff have access to resources that could make a difference to your life and help you to cope and move forward from your experience.
We can also help with housing advocacy or dealing with the criminal justice system before or after court.
If you need specialist help that we don’t think we can provide, we can contact other agencies to help get the support you need.
We work closely with a wide range of other organisations with expertise that can help you with many situations caused by crime.
Our service is commissioned and funded by the Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC).
If you are unhappy with the service commissioned by the PCC, you should first raise a complaint in the usual manner following our complaints procedure.
If you are dissatisfied with the response received, you have the right to request an independent appeal of the complaint.
If you consider that your complaint and appeal has not been handled properly, you may escalate the matter to the PCC.
When reviewing your complaint, the PCC will consider:
- Whether the provider followed its complaints process.
- Whether the service was delivered in line with the contractual agreement.
The PCC does not have the remit to investigate/reinvestigate decisions but may:
- Seek assurances from the provider.
- Take action through contract management routes where appropriate.
