Responding to Andy Burnham MP becoming the new Prime Minister, Katie Kempen, Chief Executive at Victim Support, said: 

“Andy Burnham takes the helm at a critical time for victims of crime. The criminal justice system is in crisis, the future of victims’ services funding is uncertain, and crucial legislation to uphold victims’ rights is gathering dust.

“Bold, strong leadership is urgently needed to fix our broken system and give victims real hope that fairness and justice will prevail. 

 “Victims cannot afford more delays or missed opportunities for change. The new Prime Minister must put victims at the heart of decision-making, protect vital support services, and ensure victims’ long-promised rights become reality.”

Victim Support has also set out the three urgent priorities that should top the new Prime Minister’s justice agenda.
