Today, the government have announced that all Criminal Crown Courts in England and Wales will be funded to hear as many cases as possible next year to deliver faster and fairer justice for victims.

Our Chief Executive, Katie Kempen has responded:

“We warmly welcome today’s announcement of unlimited sitting days, increased investment in the courts, and a long‑term funding settlement. This is an important – and long‑overdue – step toward addressing the crisis in our courts.

“Victims are living with the painful reality of long waits for trial, their lives on hold as they endure the stress and uncertainty of being stuck in limbo. We hope this boost in funding will help ease these delays and ensure that victims can access swifter justice.

“But investment alone will not fix everything. These changes must be matched by meaningful improvements to victims’ experiences in court – from clearer communication to better access to the special measures that support them through the process. Only then can we deliver a justice system that truly works for victims.”
