Victim Support will host an online panel event entitled, ‘How can we improve how victim-survivors of sexual violence experience the court process?’ on Thursday 10 October, 12:30pm – 1:30pm. The event will mark the launch of a new Victim Support research report – Suffering for Justice. This research explores the experiences of victim-survivors at each stage of the court process and makes recommendations to address the challenges they face in seeking justice.
The event will open with a short presentation on the report and its main findings, followed by panel discussion chaired by Katie Kempen, Victim Support’s CEO. The panel will feature:
- Professor Katrin Hohl, Independent Advisor to the UK Government on criminal justice responses to sexual violence, and Professor of Criminology & Criminal Justice at City University London;
- Baljit Ubhey, Director of Strategy and Policy, Crown Prosecution Service
- Amelia Handy, Head of Policy and Public Affairs, Rape Crisis England & Wales;
- Michaela-Clare Addison, National Sexual Violence Lead, Victim Support.
Panellists will reflect on the experiences of victim-survivors of sexual violence before, during and after giving evidence, discuss how the government and criminal justice agencies can make improvements for victim-survivors at each stage, and consider current best practice.
