The Office for National Statistics have released their new crime figures, year ending December 2025.
Katie Kempen, Chief Executive at Victim Support, said:
"It's encouraging that crime is generally decreasing but that will offer little comfort to the millions of people across England and Wales who continue to be affected by crime every day.
"A sharp fall in the number of knife homicides is welcome but every case is one too many. Murder and manslaughter are absolutely shattering for the families and communities affected. Behind every statistic is a person deprived of their life, and countless friends and family trying to come to terms with the horror of losing their loved one.
"With fraud at epidemic levels – and bank and credit account fraud on the rise – the government must be far bolder in its efforts to tackle this type of offence. Fraud is an increasingly sophisticated crime which can affect anyone, and often leaves victims feeling vulnerable, ashamed and alone, as well as financially and emotionally devastated. Clear, measurable government targets are urgently needed to drastically reduce this insidious crime.
