VS responds to 11% rise in reported homicide cases
21 April 2016
Victim Support responds to statistics from the ONS Crime Survey for England and Wales: year ending December 2015 that show an 11% rise in reported homicide cases.
Lucy Hastings, director for independent charity Victim Support (VS), said:
“While the number of homicides has fallen by over a quarter in the past decade, any rise in the number of victims is cause for concern. Behind each of these 573 victims are many more bereaved family members and loved ones, whose lives have been shattered by their loss.
“Victim Support runs the Homicide Service, which supported more than 1,400 people bereaved by murder and manslaughter in England and Wales last year, providing specialist emotional support and practical help tailored to each person’s individual needs for as long it’s needed.”
