Responding to media reports relating to support for victims and families affected by the appalling attack in Southport, a Victim Support spokesperson said:
“The horrific attack in Southport was devastating for all involved and our thoughts remain with everyone affected by what happened that day. The wellbeing and safety of victims and witnesses is our absolute priority, and we remain committed to delivering the best possible ongoing support to all those who need it.
“In response to the attack, the decision was taken to expand our Homicide Service offering so all the children and their parents/carers could receive specialist, tailored support from a dedicated caseworker. This encompasses practical and emotional support, including guidance on navigating the criminal justice system and help through our partner services such as therapy and legal advice.
“The support includes 12 sessions of trauma therapy in line with NICE clinical guidelines, ahead of a referral into the NHS for longer-term therapeutic care if needed. This therapy forms part of the wider offer of support provided by highly trained and experienced caseworkers, and this caseworker support remains in place for as long as victims and witnesses feel they need it.
“We take any concerns raised extremely seriously. We continually assess the support we provide and seek ongoing feedback from those who use our services as part of our commitment to shape and improve them. We are grateful for the feedback that we receive. We are dedicated to providing vital, high-quality services to all victims, whenever they need us.”
