A new Support Hub for victims and survivors of terrorism has launched on 1 June, delivered by a Victim Support-led partnership to provide specialist, trauma-informed support for anyone affected by a terrorist incident.

The service offers a single point of contact for every victim and survivor, providing both immediate and longer-term support through dedicated, specially trained caseworkers. Support is free and available to anyone in the UK impacted by terrorism, including those who are bereaved, injured, witnesses, first responders and carers.

Victim Support is delivering the service in partnership with Peace Collective and West London NHS Trust, bringing together specialist expertise under one roof. The service will also work alongside Victim Support Scotland and Victim Support Northern Ireland to ensure support is available across the UK.

Katie Kempen, Chief Executive at Victim Support, said:

"The horror of experiencing a terror attack is far-reaching and can have a devastating impact on victims, survivors and their families. The road to recovery can be a long and complicated one. Being able to access the right help at the right time can make a huge difference.

"We are proud to be working in partnership to deliver specialist trauma-informed support services – including immediate emotional reassurance, practical help, specialist psychological support, and longer-term recovery assistance – to anyone who needs it."

Victim Support brings significant experience in supporting those affected by terrorism. The charity provided specialist support following attacks including the 2005 London bombings and the 2017 terror attacks, after which it was in contact with more than 1,400 people affected.

The Support Hub provides a range of services tailored to the needs of each victim, including:

  • Emotional and psychological support after a terrorist incident.
  • Guidance for families and friends supporting those impacted.
  • Dedicated support for children and young people.
  • Help navigating the media.
  • Advice on financial assistance.
  • Legal assistance and support through inquests, inquiries and criminal processes.

The service has been commissioned by the Home Office and is funded through a partnership with the terrorism reinsurer Pool Re.

Security Minister at the Home Office, Dan Jarvis, said:

"For too long, victims and survivors of terrorism have had to navigate complicated and fragmented support services. I am pleased to say that ends today with the launch of our new Support Hub.

"It will offer a simpler, more joined-up approach for those rebuilding their lives after an attack – providing a single point of contact for timely emotional and practical support, dedicated caseworks and personalised support plans."
