VS responds to Channel 4’s ’24 hours in Police Custody’ in relation to rape

Victim Support responds to the Channel 4 programme ’24 hours in Police Custody’ in relation to rape.

Lucy Hastings, director at independent charity Victim Support, said:

“Rape can ruin lives and have a devastating, long lasting impact. From supporting thousands of rape victims every year, we know that many do not report this horrific crime to police, so it is all the more important that those who do come forward have confidence in the system, are treated with respect and given high quality support at every step of their way through the criminal justice system.

“If anyone has been affected by rape, sexual assault or any other crime, Victim Support is here to help. Our specialist teams offer free practical and emotional support to all victims of crime, irrespective of when the crime took place or whether it has been reported to the police.

“Crime victims can come to us for confidential advice and support, by calling our Supportline team on 08 08 16 89 111 or getting in touch via our website victimsupport.org.uk.”
