The ONS have published the latest fraud and computer misuse statistics this morning.

Estimates from the Crime Survey for England and Wales, year ending March 2025, show around 4.2 million incidents of fraud; this is a 31% increase compared with the year ending March 2024 survey (3.2 million incidents)

Responding to the new statistics, Katie Kempen, Chief Executive of Victim Support, said:

“The huge rise in fraud cases is absolutely shocking. Every day we hear from victims of fraud who tell us just how shattering this type of crime is. Fraud doesn’t just drain bank accounts – it destroys trust, damages mental health and wellbeing, and leaves many victims feeling vulnerable, ashamed and alone.

“With fraud at epidemic levels, the government must do much more to meet the scale of the challenge. While a step in the right direction, its new strategy falls far short in its ambition to strengthen support for victims of fraud. We urgently need greater recognition of the vital importance of independent support services to help victims cope, rebuild and recover their money – as well as clear, measurable government targets for reducing this type of crime. Victims deserve nothing less.
