The ONS has today released the latest findings from the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW), year ending June 2026.

Katie Kempen, Chief Executive at Victim Support, said:

“The general fall in crime is welcome but the rise in partner abuse in the last year is a huge concern and should be a stark wake-up call.

“These figures show the government’s laudable aim of halving violence against women and girls (VAWG) within a decade is at risk, and may not be realised without bolder action and sustained investment across the whole system, including the criminal justice system.

“Domestic abuse must be treated as the urgent national priority that it is. It demands a coordinated multi-agency approach to hold perpetrators to account, strengthen offender management, and to provide adult and child victim-survivors the support they deserve, when they need it.

“At Victim Support we help all victims of crime including victim-survivors of domestic abuse. Our trauma-informed support prioritises safety, emotional wellbeing, and long-term recovery.
