His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services has today published its annual assessment of policing in England and Wales.

Katie Kempen, Chief Executive at Victim Support, said:

“This report shows that victims and survivors are still not receiving the standard of service they should expect from the police, including good quality investigations and victims’ vulnerabilities being correctly identified.

“Police forces are undoubtedly under immense pressure, but they must get the basics right. It’s unacceptable that victims and survivors are paying the price for police failings. Every victim of crime deserves to be treated with respect, to be given access to justice, and to have their needs identified and met.

“Police forces must address these failings – and the government must urgently implement long-promised measures to ensure victims’ rights are delivered, monitored and enforced. Victims and survivors deserve nothing less.”
