The Government has today announced that it will invest £550 million over the next three years into victims’ services.
Responding, Victim Support Chief Executive Katie Kempen said:
“We’re pleased the Government has listened to concerns from Victim Support and others by committing to an uplift in funding for victims’ services over the coming years. While this doesn’t fully reverse previous cuts or overcome the impact of increased national insurance contributions, it’s a step in the right direction and offers much-needed stability.
“Every victim has a right to support to help them cope and move forward after experiencing crime. Support services are effective, highly valued by victims, and provide a vital safety net for those navigating an intimidating and overstretched justice system. But properly funding these services also makes financial sense – saving money through reduced costs to health services, improved productivity and lower emotional harm.”
