New year, new challenge
3 January 2018
Keen runner Sophie Evison completed her challenge of running a half marathon every month in 2017, when she finished the Percy Pud in Sheffield in December.
Since February, Sophie has run 11 half marathons and one full marathon all across the country, raising over £1,000 for Victim Support.
‘I felt totally exasperated by the number of crime cases being reported, especially around sexual assault and this year with the rise in hate crime, I felt like I had to do something to support the victims.
‘I love running, so I thought I would challenge myself to run the fastest half marathon I could during 2017 — and decided I may as well do as many as I could to try and achieve that!
‘I spent January training and started with the Harewood House Half Marathon in February. To make up the miles by the end of the year, I entered Hull Marathon.
‘Being my home town, and with Hull named City of Culture this year, it was a particularly special race for me, especially with all my friends and family there to cheer me over the finish line!’
A highlight for Sophie came when she completed the Stratford-upon-Avon Autumn Shakespeare Half Marathon in just 1:40:15 coming third overall in her category.
If you feel inspired by Sophie’s challenge there are lots of ways to get involved in 2018. We have places available in challenge events across the country.
