Victim Care Officer x 2 - Wakefield

Victim Support is looking to recruit two regular full-time Victim Care Officers to join the team based in our Victim Assessment and Referral Centre in Wakefield. The working hours are 37.5 per week, to be worked in line with the published rota.

The Victim Assessment and Referral Centre is open Monday to Friday, 8am–8pm and Saturday, 9am–5pm. You will be required to work flexibly on a rota basis as follows:

  • Week 1: 9am–5pm
  • Week 2: 12pm-8pm, plus approximately one Saturday per month at this time.

In this role, you will make initial contact with victims of crime by telephone to assess their needs with regards to practical and emotional support and agree cope and recovery plans in order to ensure they receive the most appropriate service. You will deliver immediate support services over the phone, and/or refer victims to other agencies and contact approved service suppliers to deliver services in line with agreed procedures.

You will be highly self-motivated with the ability to liaise confidently with partner organisations, particularly with the police. With the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, you will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, appropriate to the support of people in crisis. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is essential, including the ability to enter information into databases and review information within them.

On successful completion of a probationary period your salary will increase to £18,823 per annum.

The successful candidates will require an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
