Elisha’s story

Photo of ElishaWhat is your role with Victim Support?

I'm a Graphic Design Volunteer. I started volunteering with Victim Support in May 2016.

What inspired you to volunteer and what motivates you?

I believe it’s important to do whatever you can to help others — this role at Victim Support was perfect for me because it allowed me to put my studies into practice and produce work that will benefit such a great cause. My main motivation for staying with Victim Support is the people I work with — they inspire me every day and really help me feel supported in my role.

What are your main tasks?

I was taken on by Victim Support to help them produce resources using creative and innovative design. Victim Support had recently gone through a re-brand, so it’s my job to make sure that their audience understands who they are and what they do. Most recently, I’ve worked on a set of new volunteer recruitment posters which put the new brand into play.

What skills and experience do you bring to the role?

I’m a graphic design student, so bring many skills from my university course and work experience to the role. I also contribute some of my other skills such as photography and film.

How has volunteering helped you?

Being with Victim Support has had a huge impact on my confidence as a designer. Before, I was quite nervous about producing work for a professional organisation, but I soon learned that there was no need to be, as the team I work with are warm, friendly and supportive.

What’s special about volunteering with Victim Support?

I think the diversity of roles and jobs within the organisation is really unique. As you have the opportunity to work with different people in varied professions, it makes doing the job that bit more special!

What would you say to people thinking about volunteering with Victim Support?

There’s nothing to lose volunteering with Victim Support — you can only gain and grow!

What three words best describe your experience as a volunteer?

Innovative, inspiring and, most of all, fun!
