Training and qualifications - for Victim Support staff and volunteers
Victim Support helps staff and volunteers learn in many ways - allowing people to gain skills and knowledge to deliver a high-quality service to victims and witnesses.
We played a significant role in the development of the National Occupational Standards (NOS) relating to work with victims, survivors and witnesses, working alongside partners from the criminal justice sector. These standards give a clear framework for staff and volunteers to gain nationally recognised qualifications.
All Victim Support volunteers need to complete our core learning programme before working with victims and witnesses. We also provide training to help volunteers with serious crime work; at the moment, this includes racist crime, supporting people bereaved through homicide, domestic violence and victims of sexual violence (male and female).
At the moment, our learning programme for staff includes national induction, managing people, managing the service, casework management, equality and diversity, and training skills.
