As a result of the Coronavirus pandemic we have made our free live chat support service available 24/7.

Create a free account on My Support Space – an online resource containing interactive guides to help you manage the impact that crime has had on you.

If you’re a victim of crime, whether you have reported it to the police or not, you can call your local Victim Support team in Dyfed Powys, and we’ll make sure you get the information and support you need. This might be arranging a meeting for you to talk to us and receive emotional support in confidence, helping you to fill out a compensation form or get advice on how to make your home more secure, or referring you to other specialist organisations that can also help.

As well as offering emotional and practical support to people affected by crime, we run a number of specialist services in South Wales, including:

  • National Hate Crime Report and Support Centre Wales

Victim Support Cymru has been commissioned by the Welsh Government to support victims of hate crime and incidents in Wales. We are the official support mechanism and are working to increase reporting of hate crime and to raise awareness of what a hate crime is.

You can contact us on 0300 3031 982 or hatecrimewales@victimsupport.org.uk.

Last year we offered immediate support to over 4,000 people affected by crime in Dyfed Powys, and gave in-depth support to nearly 400 people.

One victim we have supported is Amelia*, who contacted Victim Support when she was concerned about the theft of her nine-year-old son’s quad bike from their property.

Since the theft of Oliver’s** bike, he has been very scared and had lost his confidence. He was too afraid to sleep in his own bedroom and was sleeping on a camp bed in our room.

Our Victim Support caseworker spoke to him about how he was feeling and he told them that if he heard a noise at night, it scared him that somebody was there.

Our caseworker gave him a children’s personal alarm and a worry eater, and explained to him that he could write down what was bothering him or what he was afraid of and put them into Biff the worry eater to take the bad thoughts away. Oliver was happy to do this, and we also looked at the alarm and showed him what to do if he was scared or heard anything at night.

Since Victim Support have been supporting us, Oliver has made progress and he is nearly back to the normal little boy he was before the incident. He is still using the personal alarm and this has helped him so much. He is still sleeping in his own bedroom and seems much more relaxed.
