The criminal justice system has produced a Witness charter to set out the basic standards of service you can expect if you are a witness of crime.
Unlike the Code of practice for victims of crime, the criminal justice agencies and lawyers are not legally required to meet these standards for witness care - there may be reasons why they cannot in individual cases. But you should normally expect most of the people you deal with as a witness to meet the standards set out in the charter.
If you think you're not being treated as you should as a witness, or think the standards of service are not being met, you can raise this with the Witness Care Unit.
