What to expect from the criminal justice system
The criminal justice system is made up of lots of different agencies. While the system is complicated, it's meant to work as a whole and offer basic rights and services to all victims and witnesses of crime.
What you can expect from the criminal justice system is set out in the Victim's Charter and the Code of practice for victims of crime.
While the criminal justice system has improved in how it treats victims and witnesses over the years, Victim Support still believes there is room for much more to be done. We believe that the system needs to put 'customer service' at its heart and continue to campaign for this to happen. Our latest work on this is the research report Summing up - which gives a comprehensive snapshot of how the justice system is performing for victims and witnesses. Download a copy below.
