Marilyn volunteers with Victim Support to help witnesses deal with the difficult experience of attending court to give evidence.
“I thoroughly enjoy volunteering for Victim Support and feel that I have made a difference. I feel that I have been lucky in my life and want to give something back to the community.
“It’s a privilege to be able to help people during what can be a very taxing time. Witnesses are usually anxious and it’s great that I can help them relax during their time at court simply by chatting to them about mundane things and being a calming presence.
“I find that it helps to have a non-partial and non-judgemental attitude as one day you are supporting a witness from the defence and another day you are helping a victim from the prosecution of the same case.”
