Part of the community

Hate crimes target particular communities. We look for ways to work together to beat it.

Victim Support may be a national charity but we're also proud to be a community-based organisation.

Our thousands of volunteers are normal people who give up their time for free to support other members of their community who have been hurt by crime. Our volunteers also have opportunities to influence how our charity is run and the decisions we make through becoming supporter members and putting their views through our national Assembly. We designed our governance with this in mind to help ensure we stay in touch with and respond to all communities and their needs.

A few words on diversity

Our charity is deeply committed to promoting and encouraging diversity. We are there to help people from all communities with any needs related to being a victim or witness of crime. We value having people from diverse backgrounds in our organisation.

Working with the community

There's a lot we can achieve as a national charity, but we also know we can do so much more for victims and witnesses through working with others. Our local staff and volunteers get involved in many community organisations and projects to help reduce crime and its impact. We know it's sometimes easy to think that nothing can be done about crime - but we provide a way for all communities to mobilise and do something positive together to help deal with the impact crime has.
