Helen and Hannah are mother and daughter. For four years, their family lived in fear of a neighbouring family who started a campaign of verbal attacks, damage to their property and acts of intimidation against them.

They said, “When the police pressed charges on the family, we were referred to Victim Support. It was a comfort to know there is somebody there who knows what’s going on and understands how the system works.

“It was really nice to have someone phoning up and checking you were okay, asking if you had any more problems and whether you needed anything. That was really good – I could create a rapport with the volunteers so I knew they were there for me – this made it more comfortable to go to court, which is helpful because I think it’s a scary place.

“The council officials and their solicitors would tell us things using terminology that we didn’t understand. Our volunteer would explain the terminology in layman’s terms so we fully understood the court proceedings.

“Victim Support genuinely care about you – this makes a huge difference because you feel your issues are important and will be dealt with.”
