Crime Survey shows a significant decrease of vandalism, vehicle-related theft and burglary
Overall crime in England and Wales has fallen by six per cent for the year ending June 2012, according to Office for National Statistics figures.
Latest Crime Survey for England and Wales estimates show significant decreases of vandalism, vehicle-related theft and burglary with entry, compared with the previous year. However, the sub-category ‘theft from the person’ showed a six per cent increase.
Recorded police crime in all the main categories also fell by six per cent compared to the previous year which continues the downward spiral from 2004-05.
Javed Khan, Chief Executive of Victim Support, said: "Crime has been falling for 20 years now.
"We welcome this of course, but we know from the thousands of victims we've helped in the last month alone that crime is a real problem for a lot of people.
"A fall in crime isn't grounds for complacency. Many victims still need help to cope and recover after a crime has taken place."
