Victim Support has climbed a massive 31 places in the last year to be voted the 45th most gay-friendly employer in the UK by gay rights charity Stonewall today. In Wales, the national charity made it into the top 10 at 6th place.

Victim Support has been steadily rising in the UK ranks in recent years from 92nd place in 2009 to 76th in 2010. It is one of only five third sector organisations to make it into the top 100 in the UK.

We have our own LGBT network to give advice and support, and address the issues facing members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans community. With our committed to diversity – Victim Support is determined to make a similar leap again next year, getting into the top 30.

Adam Pemberton, Victim Support’s Assistant Chief Executive and Corporate Management Team Ambassador on LGBT issues, said: “We are very proud of this achievement and excited to be recognised by Stonewall. As a charity, we’re committed to equality, diversity and inclusion – both as an employer and in delivering services to victims and witnesses. But we want to go further and will be working hard over the coming year to do even better next time.”

Gaynor McKeown, Locality Director for Wales said: “The rise in our position in Wales is a reflection of the hard work of all staff and volunteers and the increased partnership work with Stonewall Cymru and other groups across Wales. We have been proud to deliver the ‘It’s no joke project’ with Stonewall Cymru and additional funding from the EHRC. This project has helped to increase confidence in our organisation, encouraging people to work for us, partners to work with us, but most importantly those affected by crime to use our services.”

363 employers took part in the survey.
